There are several types of obesity, but the most common one is the excess fat in the body. There is no exact definition of obesity, but when the body mass index (BMI) is more than 30 kg/m2 then it is considered as obese. So, it means that obesity occurs when the body weight is more than 30 kg and the height is less than 2 meters.

The normal BMI range is between 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2, but there are people who are classified under overweight or obese category as well. So, let’s see what BMI is and how you can check it.

What Is BMI?

Body mass index is a simple ratio between weight and height. A person with a higher BMI will be heavier than the one who has a lower BMI. So, it will show the relationship between the weight and height of the person. The range of BMI will vary according to age and gender.

How To Calculate BMI?

The calculation of BMI is very easy and it is calculated by dividing the body weight by the square of the body height.

For Example:

If your weight is 75 kg and your height is 1.75 m then the formula will be

(75 x 1.75² = 72.25)

72.25 / 25 = 2.85

Therefore, the BMI will be 2.85 kg/m2
